We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior On Site Machining Technician to support on site machining activities for hydro‑dam control and intake gate pathways. This role is suited to an individual who is comfortable working at heights, operates safely in physically demanding environments, and performs effectively in remote and austere conditions.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong technical judgment, a safety‑first mindset, and the ability to plan, install, operate, and maintain specialized machining equipment while leading field execution from mobilization through demobilization.

Location: Remote work sites primarily in New Brunswick, Labrador, and central Newfoundland.
Rotation: On site rotations of up to 5 weeks.
Season: May to November (with potential off‑season projects for qualified individuals).
Training: Job and equipment‑specific training provided.

Key Responsibilities

Technical & Operational:

  • Plan and execute the installation, setup, alignment, and operation of machining equipment in remote and austere environments.

  • Perform complex on site machining operations on hydro‑dam control and intake gate pathways.

  • Develop and execute detailed setup, alignment, and work plans using sound critical‑thinking and problem‑solving skills.

  • Lead on site machining activities from mobilization through demobilization, ensuring quality, productivity, and schedule adherence.

  • Collaborate closely with client representatives and owner’s engineers to resolve field challenges and technical constraints.

  • Direct and coordinate site‑based trade support, including welders and riggers.

Safety Responsibilities:

  • Lead by example in maintaining a strong safety culture on site.

  • Comply with all site‑specific safety rules, client safety programs, and applicable regulatory requirements

  • Conduct and participate in job hazard analyses (JHAs), toolbox talks, and pre‑task planning meetings.

  • Identify unsafe conditions or practices and take immediate corrective action.

  • Ensure proper use, inspection, and care of personal protective equipment (PPE)

  • Safely perform work at heights, including the use of fall‑protection systems and access equipment.

  • Stop work authority: exercise the authority and responsibility to halt work when unsafe conditions exist.

Equipment Maintenance & Care:

  • Perform routine inspection, basic maintenance, and functional checks of on site machining equipment.

  • Ensure equipment is installed, operated, maintained, and demobilized in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and project requirements.

  • Identify equipment issues early and coordinate repairs or adjustments to minimize downtime.

  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas, including proper handling and storage of tools and equipment.

  • Assist in documenting equipment condition, maintenance activities, and field modifications as required.

Qualifications:

  • Journeyperson Millwright or equivalent trade background with a strong grasp of alignment concepts.

  • Demonstrated machining experience in industrial or heavy‑equipment environments.

  • 10+ years of related trade or field experience.

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.

  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Proven ability to work safely at heights and in physically demanding conditions.

  • Strong critical‑thinking skills and the ability to rapidly acquire and apply new technical skills.

  • Experience working at remote or isolated job sites is considered an asset.

  • Willingness to travel and remain on site for extended rotations in remote locations.

Safety & Compliance Qualifications:

  • Formal safety training relevant to industrial field work (e.g., fall protection, confined space awareness, lockout/tagout, rigging awareness).

  • Ability to understand and follow safe work procedures, permits, and hazard controls.
